Engineer and toolmaker Andreas Schlütter, of Germany, produces patented trumps in the range of DD through D to d. These trumps have frames of German silver and tongues are a special steel. The frame is stamped with key in the German system (C-Cis-D-Eis-E-F-Fis-As-A-B-H-C). Lower pitched instrument trigger tips are bent for inward plucking... most mid and high keys are looped.  Schlütter trumps can be very loud and provide a wide array of sometimes unusual harmonic content. Mouth Music stocks most common keys.

Hand-crafted in Hungary by veteran maker Zóltan Szilágyi whose long experience has led to the development of many models of 'harps, each with different qualities and tessitura.

We stock the popular Black Fire family of 'harps in most common keys and consider these among the finest 'harps we've ever encountered.

Triggers may be bent or looped as the maker deems fit for the instrument. Most often triggers are bent.

Robbie now ships these in a cassette tape box (not shown)

Robbie Clemént uses 3/16" stainless steel key stock to create Fred Whitlow designed, American style 'harps. Precisely tuned and shipped to you in a protective plastic case, these fine instruments are available chromatically from C-1 to D-2 and represent a great value in hand made harps. Higher keys have looped triggers; Lower keys have bent triggers. The maker claims the loop on lower keys detracts from the flexibility of the reed and thus overall volume. Guaranteed not to break. Good medium-loud sound.

From Russia
Altai Khomus by Vladimir Potkin
with cedar case

US$ 42.00 ea.

UNTUNED

The current stock of Potkin's are slightly different than previous builds. The crimp end is a bit larger (more round).

From Russia with love. This wonderful little brass and steel Altai Khomus by Vladimir Potkin is a joy to play. The looped trigger allows very fast plucking in both directions and the round frame is easy to grip. It has a smooth tone with no breath but copious harmonics appear when punched with an exhale. Untuned (though most are around an F#). Loud.

Traditional trumps from India - Hand forged and crafted - Untuned, each have a looped trigger for fast in-and-out playing. Great for percussive sounds, the reeds are quite stiff by our ears.

The Morchang (left in image) are from Northwestern India, Rajasthan, to be exact. Current stock of Morchangs vary in size and pitch.

Morsing (or Moorsing or Mursing, right in image) are from South India, and are classical Carnatic instruments.  (Carnatic music is the classical music system of the south.)

UNTUNED

Murchunga - From Nepal. Brass frame and steel reed or steel with steel. Hand forged and crafted. Untuned with a looped trigger for fast in-and-out playing. Great for percussive sounds. The reeds are not as stiff as the India trumps and the frames are much smaller. The reed through frame does nothing for the sound but makes them a lot easier to hold.

The small brass is higher pitched

We now have a pretty solid source for these!

Dan Moi – Vietnamese Brass Hmong Harps – Made by a Hmong tribe of the northern mountains of Vietnam. Dan Moi means "Lip instrument," and is played against the lips instead of the teeth. It gives a rewarding sound, full of brilliant harmonics.  Untuned. Curled brass, much lighter gauge than the Chong Moua Lee design. It is easy to play, but fragile and must be treated with care.

Bass Dan Moi - Similar to the Dan Moi but slightly larger, made of heavier gauge brass. Gives full, rich lower tone. Untuned.

Cambodian Bamboo Jew's Harps

UNTUNED

US$ 8.00 ea.   OUT OF STOCK (temporary)

From Cambodia
- We find these bamboo Jew's harps are easy to hold and may be
longer lasting due to being made of thicker material than many other similar instruments. Held against the lips, they are easy to play and offer the same full, percussive sound as the "Kubings." Some are decorated, some are not.

(Bamboo Trumps from the Philippines) UNTUNED

US$ 6.00 ea.
 3 Kubings for US$ 16.00
(ships as one item)

Handmade by various tribes of the Philippines, we use the term "Kubing" to describe these bamboo trumps, though many names are common. These easy to play instruments feature a percussive sound, full of tone, but with short sustain as compared to a steel trump. Kubings are held against the lips rather than the teeth. Excellent for the beginner. Kubings - (Bamboo Trumps from the Philippines)

Mo Nhip

(Percussive Trump from Vietnam)

US$ 10.00 ea.

Similar to the Clackamore in design (but not in reliability and construction) a Mo Nhip is a percussive trump with a woodblock type sound that can be varied by mouth shape. Made of wood and bamboo.

A Mo Nhip is held against the lips rather than the teeth. Excellent for the beginner.
